10 Things to Know When Ordering Your Wedding Flowers
2017 Wedding Show Booklet Article

1/2017
  1. Flowers can transform any venue. Using flowers to liven up a venue is essential, especially if the venue has areas of open space . For example, if the venue has tall ceilings, tall arrangements or flowers draping from chandeliers are a great compliment. Your florist should know where and what to place to create a room with your style.
  2. Trust your florist. Building a relationship with any professional is key. Get to know your florist by asking questions like, how much experience do they have? What are their style suggestions? Your florist should be a good listener, offer options, and work with you to give you exactly what you want on your special day.
  3. Be open. Floral availability may be limited or the product that arrives may not be of suitable quality. Being open to other flower options within the same color scheme and feel is important.
  4. Know when and where to reuse floral. For example, a toss bouquet can be used as a guest book table arrangement or aisle flowers can be used as buffet or cake table arrangements. Bridal and bridesmaid bouquets are typically too tall to use on tables and their time to shine is going down the aisle.
  5. Prioritize. What are your floral expectations? Are your flowers the most important highlight of your wedding? Is the uniqueness of the design to reflect your personality most important? Or is staying within a budget more important?
  6. DIY can be a headache. Purchasing dozens of vases and floral supplies can be very overwhelming and it’s the last thing you or your guests want to worry about on your special day. Hiring a professional provides peace of mind, a cohesive style, and can be just as cost effective.
  7. Give plenty of time. Flowers are shipped in from all around the world and you want to ensure your florist has time to place your custom order. 6-8 months is ideal for planning and any necessary changes that may occur.
  8. Be prepared during your consultation. Having pictures organized and ready to show your florist during the consultation will help things flow smoothly and timely. Know quantities, like centerpieces, corsages and boutonnieres needed.
  9. Communication is key. Talking to your florist with any question or concern you have throughout the design process will help ensure you’re both on the same page. If staying within a budget is a concern, your florist can give you ideas and suggestions to meet your needs.
  10. Have FUN! This is a day you may have dreamt about for a long time and you want the process to be as memorable as the day itself. Having a florist who is excited to create something special for your day will help make your experience fun and memorable! If you have a good feeling about your florist during your first consultation, stick with them and trust they’ll do a great job. If there are any doubts, consult with other florists who might be a better match and leave you feeling confident and satisfied!
Best wishes and may your personalized flowers be a reflection of you, helping make your day extra special!
